Каждое 18 апреля радиолюбители всего мира выходят в эфир в рамках празднования Всемирного дня любительского радио.Именно в этот день в 1925 году в Париже был создан Международный союз радиолюбителей .
Экспериментаторы радиолюбителей были первыми, кто обнаружил, что спектр коротких волн - далеко не пустошь - может поддерживать распространение по всему миру. В стремлении использовать эти более короткие волны радиолюбительская радиостанция «находилась в серьезной опасности быть отброшенной в сторону», отмечает история IARU. Пионеры любительского радио встретились в Париже в 1925 году и создали IARU для поддержки любительского радио во всем мире.

Спустя всего два года на Международной радиотелеграфной конференции радиолюбитель получил распределение, все еще признанное сегодня - 160, 80, 40, 20 и 10 метров. С момента своего основания IARU неустанно работал над защитой и расширением частотных распределений для любительского радио. Благодаря поддержке просвещенных администраций во всех уголках земного шара радиолюбители теперь могут экспериментировать и общаться в полосах частот, стратегически расположенных по всему радиоспектру. Из 25 стран, которые сформировали IARU в 1925 году, IARU выросло до 160 стран-членов в трех регионах. Регион 1 IARU включает Европу, Африку, Ближний Восток и Северную Азию. Регион 2 охватывает Америку, а Регион 3 состоит из Австралии, Новой Зеландии, тихоокеанских островных государств и большей части Азии.
Сегодня любительское радио стало популярнее, чем когда-либо, с более чем 3 000 000 лицензированных операторов!
Всемирный день любительского радио - это день, когда общества-члены IARU могут показать свои возможности широкой публике и насладиться глобальной дружбой с другими любителями по всему миру.
Мы предоставили плакат ко Всемирному дню радиолюбителей. Любой клуб может скачать его и использовать для продвижения WARD в своей области. Плакат выпускается в двух размерах:  61 см х 91 см  и  небольшой (А4) флаер.
Группы должны рекламировать свою деятельность WARD в социальных сетях, используя хеш-тег  #WorldAmateurRadioDay  в Twitter и Facebook. IARU перечислит все действия WARD на этой странице. Чтобы получить список своих занятий в WARD, отправьте электронное письмо секретарю IARU   Дэвиду Самнеру, K1ZZ .
